As I’m reading through Hubspot’s most recent “Not Another State of Marketing Report” marketing report I came across something that jumped out at me. About a quarter of the way through, the report touches on Search Engine Optimization.
Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is a bit of a passion of mine. Full disclosure, I used to LOATH it. That is, until I took a client challenge, made suggestions, was able to execute those suggestions, and the impact was immediate. You see, the problem with SEO is that it’s really a whole slew of varying factors that have to come together to work. And then you have to do it again and again. Rarely do we have the opportunity to influence all of those factor once, much less over and over, and so it can be pretty tricky to get the results you want to see.
In the “Not Another State of Marketing Report” marketing report, Dharmesh Shah, Founder and CTO of Hubspot is quoted as saying, “The quality of the result is almost always a function of the number of iterations. It’s about going through the grind again and again and again. Even when you’re only
getting marginal improvements. Remarkable work is the result of remarkable perseverance.” So, you see, SEO has to be an Investment, and it requires not just patience, but patience with perseverance.
The report shows that in 2020, 64% of marketers invested in SEO and in 2021, that has bumped up to 69%. It’s a number that we can expect to continue growing.
As I continue to read more and more about the SEO and it’s evolution, I am noticing a trend. Over and over I keep hearing some version of the same idea; That great SEO is now about stepping back and creating an amazing tailored experience for your audience, and then do it again and again.
